Loosely translated, Loca Linda means “crazy in a good way. The same could be said for the winemaking philosophy of owner Brian Smith and his wife Gina despite the naysayers, they’ve found a way to produce a high-quality, expressive, hand-crafted wine at an approachable price point. Brian creates terroir driven wines of character. As part of their sustainable winemaking philosophy, Brian and Gina use lightweight, eco-friendly one liter bottles which contain more wine, but involve less waste.
Wine maker notes
OUR VINES Valle de Famatina, La Rioja, 911 meters in elevation Grapes were hand harvested in two separate passes. The first is an early slightly green harvest when the bunches have a higher PH. A second harvest takes place when the grapes reach their full maturity. Grapes are hand sorted and gently crushed in a pneumatic press without de-stemming. The wine is cold fermented in 100% stainless steel to preserve pure varietal character, freshness and natural acidity. OUR VINEYARDS The most important viticulture area in La Rioja, Chilecito, is located in the west of the province, at the base of the Sierra Famatina. The valley offers optimum excellent conditions for the growing of Torrontes. The vineyards lie about 911m above sea level with sandy textured alluvial soils over beds of pebbles. OUR SKY The area typically has low humidity with only 150mm of annual rain. Sunlight and average temperatures in the summer ranges from 35° C during the day and it falls to 17° C at night. This swing in temperature results in increased complexity and balance. OUR WATER The water is totally pure as it runs off of the snow-covered peak of the Sierra Famatina. Pure mineral water results in lower ph and higher natural acidity allowing us to produce naturally balanced wines.

Technical notes
Grapes were hand-picked in two separate passes. The first is a green harvest when the bunches have a higher pH. A second harvest takes place when the grapes reach full maturity. Grapes are gently crushed in a pneumatic press without destemming. The wine was cold fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Loosely translated, Loca Linda means “crazy in a good way.” The same could be said for the winemaking philosophy of owner Brian Smith and his wife Gina – despite the naysayers, they’ve found a way to produce a high-quality, expressive, hand-crafted wine at an approachable price point. A Master Sommelier with experience at some of the finest dining establishments in the US, Brian’s intention is to create terroir-driven wines of character. To that end, he leveraged his knowledge and industry contacts in Argentina to identify high altitude vineyards with well-draining alluvial soils and impeccably pure water. As part of their sustainable winemaking philosophy, Brian and Gina use lightweight, eco-friendly one liter bottles which contain more wine, but involve less waste.
