The name of this prestigious winery dates back the sixteenth century and comes from a noble family, the Thaulero’s, living in the heart of Italy: the Abruzzo region. Furthermore the small area where the family was located, as time went by , took the name of “Casal Thaulero” in honor of this meritorious family history. Traces of them are found in a marriage agreement dated March 9th 1738 in which there were described all the goods, from the trousseau to the vineyards, given as dowry to Angela Thaulero, daughter of Don Francesco Thaulero.
At the end of 1800, Duke John Thaulero Duke, Don Francesco’s son began a recovery work of his proprieties, planting vines and building a large cutting edge winery. He is considered one of Abruzzo oenology precursor, thanks to his strong willing for experimentation: a true precursor of viticulture.
This ancient winemaking tradition was then in 1961 taken over by local winegrowers to let this honorable history live until nowadays. This new organization with its traditional background and commitment to hard work allowed the winery to grow and Casal Thaulero has been then the first winery in Abruzzo to bottle wine with a DOC denomination.
This story, full of passion and with “noble origins” continues even nowadays, as the Casal Thaulero wines are recognized and appreciated in a lot of countries around the world.
