Bright ruby color. Blackberries and wild strawberries are the dominant aromas along with faint aromas of clove, cocoa, and vanilla. On the pallet, flavors of fresh plum and black cherry are framed with a supple mouthfeel and light tannins. The abundance of fruit is balanced by the pleasant French oak influence. Wine Advocate 87 points - The light ruby/garnet-colored 2012 Pinot Noir Estate comes from the well-known Dijon clonal material in addition to some Pommard clones (the latter is highly popular in Oregon). Aromas of forest floor, black cherries and a touch of oak emerge from this well-balanced Pinot Noir. With light tannin, a silky roundness and a seductive style, it should drink nicely for 2-3 years. The Wetzel Family’s Pinot Noir vineyard is planted along the banks of the Russian River; where the morning fog lingers and cools the vines. The small vineyard is planted to just four clones - Dijon777: for rich concentration, black fruit; Dijon115: for soft tannins & perfume, Pommard: for color, dark fruit & spice and FPMS2A: for perfume, finesse, red fruit.
The vines are grown using the Smart Dyson trellis system - allowing us to control the vigor of the vine while giving us flexibility to adjust the trellising to changing weather conditions during the growing season. This ensures the fruit gets adequate sun exposure, while keeping yields in check.

|Long, warm summer days and cool evenings during grape maturation along with limiting the crop in the 5 acre block situated on the Alexander Valley Vineyards property, has unquestionably produced a Pinot Noir which is abundant in the classic Pinot aromas and flavors. Cold soaking; two pump overs a day during fermentation; plus the use of the two different yeast strains enhanced the aroma and flavor.
