Wine Advocate 91 points - The 2008 Duca Enrico is 100% Nero d’Avola aged in oak barrel for 18 months. Way back in 1984, Duca Enrico broke new ground in Sicilian oenology by becoming the very first monovarietal bottling of the grape. Big plans for the 30th birthday of the wine are now underway. You get a great sense of the varietal here including those telltale tones of toasted almond shell, scorched earth and dried dill that are so characteristic of the grape. Soft berry tones and ripe cherry fill in the rear. There’s a note of bitterness on the close and the wine shows balanced acidity overall. If you are a Nero d’Avola fanatic, don’t miss this excellent interpretation. Drink 2014-2022. (May 2014)
he first single varietal wine to be produced from Nero d’Avola grapes in the history of Sicilian wine, it was first made in 1984. The idea of this noble wine originated from the desire to produce a great Sicilian red wine that could stand alongside the highest quality wines in existence in the international wine-making industry.
Duca Enrico is a wine of great charm; it is aged for 18 months in oak barrels, which lends it complexity, style and longevity, after which it is bottle aged for at least a year to complete the organoleptic qualities, enhancing the distinctive bouquet with aristocratic notes.
