Wine Advocate 88 points - The 2012 Primitivo Piluna shows a solid, modern approach with a bright core of cherry fruit that is surrounded by savory spice and dark earth. There are rustic touches and the wine is ripe, soft and slightly sweet in character. Having said that, Piluna also delivers a pleasant sense of harmony and balance. This is a great wine to pair with grilled meats. (Apr 2015)
Piluna or “pot made of tufa” in Greek is the name chosen for this Primitivo. A name evocative of a land which breathes, dedicated to its best indigenous grape varieties, a lively, generous, intense name like the place from which it comes.
|Located near the bucolic town of Salice Salentino in Puglia, the "heel” of "Italy’s boot” which is an idyllic spot situated between the Adriatic and Tirrenean seas, is the new property of Castello Monaci. The eponymous castle is nestled amid groves of centuries old olive trees, and a long road slices straight through the estate’s 150 hectares of vineyards, forming what Monaci terms a meridian, an imaginary line which is the highest point in the sky reached by the sun.
