Intense aromas of ripe blackberries and raspberriescombine with hints of fresh herbs and other earthy mineral nuances. A fruit-forward wine with smooth tannins and long complex finish.
Wine Enthusiast 91 points - This Mazuelo (Carignan) is strongly perfumed, with whiffs of juniper, funk and blueberry along the way. A full, lively, deep palate is home to black-fruit, chocolate and vanilla flavors, while the finish surfs on the edge of syrupy and fully ripe, ultimately falling on the right side of the fence.
Wine Spectator 90 points - The thick texture carries savory flavors of tobacco, briar and earth in this chewy red. Full-bodied, with muscular tannins. Pretty berry and floral notes emerge on the spicy finish. Drink now through 2020. -TM

Wine Advocate 89 points - The 2010 Coleccion Mazuelo has a lifted, ripe nose of macerated black cherries, crushed violet and blueberry that blossoms nicely in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with a succulent entry that segues into a pure, smooth, quite sensual finish of black cherries and cassis that fans nicely across the mouth. This lovely, “sexy” Mazuelo is irresistible now, although I am intrigued to see how it will age. Drink now-2018.
Bright violet. Intense, spice-accented aromas and flavors of cherry and dark berries, with a subtle lavender quality. Deep, sappy and precise. Closes with good tangy cut and notable length. leaving a bitter cherry note behind. -- Josh Raynolds (Aug 2012)
