Full, deep golden yellow. Intense bouquet of roses and
exotic fruits, reminiscent of cinnamon and clove. Full-bodied and rich on the palate. Fruity and smooth on the finish, persistent.
Wine Advocate 91 points - Opening to a bright, off-gold color, the 2012 Alto Adige Gewurztraminer Kastelaz opens to explosive varietal aromas of lychee fruit, passion fruit, guava and pear with light tones of nutmeg and dried ginger. There’s a characteristic touch of petroleum and church incense that adds to the wine’s buoyancy and aromatic lift. A soft, luscious mouthfeel is capped by a noticeable 6.6 grams per liter of residual sugar. (Oct 2014)
Very carefully selected, fully ripe grapes were selected,
picked in two harvests. Before pressing the crushed berries are cold macerated for 6 hours, after which the juice is clarified by refrigeration and natural sedimentation. Fermentation is activated using selected yeasts and the temperature is controlled at 20°C. The young wine remains on its lees for several months.

The firm belief that the quality of wine is created in the vineyard requires uncompromising work, taking into account the individuality of each vineyard. With 55 hectares in cultivation, including the two top vineyards Castel Ringberg in Caldaro und Kastelaz in Tramin, Elena Walch belongs to the most important protagonists of Alto Adige winemaking.
