The monastery of La Mejorada, located between Valladolid, Salamanca and Segovia, was founded at the beginning of the 15th century. In 1999 Bodegas y Vinedos de La Mejorada acquired the remains of the Monastery and in 2007 the property was purchased by the family of Jose Rafael Moneo. The 105 acres of vineyards are planted to Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Malbec on deep alluvial terrain, eroded granite and gravel over a base of moist clay. Winemaker Florent Dumeau is assisted by vineyard manager Xavier Chone and technical director Alvaro Bernardo.

|The monastery of La Mejorada, once occupied by the Order of San Geronimo, was founded at the beginning of the 15th century by Don Fernando de Trastamara. Located between Valladolid, Salamanca and Segovia, La Mejorada served as an important meeting place throughout the reigns of Fernando and Isabel, Carlos V and Felipe II, all of whom were guests at this monastery. Playing an important role in the society of the era, the Monastery was where Christopher Columbus would write the Memorial de la Mejorada, anticipating the treaty that would establish Portuguese and Spanish spheres of influence in the New World, and also where Berruguete would build the altarpiece today exhibited in the Museo de Escultura of Valladolid.
During the 17th and 18th centuries, La Mejorada continued to be a prosperous Monastery, based on its activity both in the fields of culture and farming. This activity was interrupted during the War of Independence, during which it was completely dismantled. With the Desamortizacion de Mendizabal, the Jeronimos left the Monastery and it passed into private hands.
In 1999 Bodegas y Vinedos de La Mejorada acquired the remains of the Monastery and the 140 hectares belonging to it. In 2004, after years of intense work of plantation and restoration ,the Bodega was installed around the original cloister. At the end of 2007, the Mejorada became the property of the company owned by the family of Jose Rafael Moneo.
