Few people know that the Fiano variety was known to Frederick II of Swabia and to Charles I of Anjou as long ago as the 13th century, and that it was cultivated right here in the Salento area. The Zonin family has retrieved it from oblivion, finding in the soils of Masseria Altemura an ideal microclimate for proving that one can obtain an outstanding white even in Puglia. The recuperation of clones of this variety was not a simple task, but the result is a gratifying glimpse of winemaking history enclosed in a bottle. The balance of taste sensations, with hints of almonds, orange blossom, peaches and aromatic herbs, conveys the atmosphere of a unique habitat set like a jewel between the two Seas. One can taste the Ionian and the Adriatic in the refi ned salty and mineral notes and the crisp, elegant freshness on the palate. Thanks to the wine’s brilliant highlights, one might defi ne it as “the gold of Salento”.
Food pairing
It goes particularly well with full-flavored fish dishes or with legume-based dishes (such as broad beans and endive).

Producer
Casa Vinicola Zonin is one of Italy’s most important privately-owned wine-producing companies and is also one of the foremost worldwide. It distributes and markets the still and sparkling wines under the Zonin label as well as those of the family’s nine Estates. Inspired by the principle “each region has its own traditions, each region has its own wines” Gianni Zonin has, since the end of the 1960s, been selecting outstanding terroirs, bringing Casa Vinicola Zonin to its present area under vine of around 2.000 hectares, supervised by a team of 32 oenologists and agronomists. These make up 9 Estates situated in Italy’s 7 finest Regions for wine production, as well as a property in the United States, Barboursville Vineyards in Virginia. Different production areas, each with its own specific terroir and its own peculiarities in terms of climate and morphology, the experience and professionalism of our agronomists and oenologists and the choice of dynamic business strategies: these are the most important values on which our company’s philosophy is based.
