This wine is 100% estate grown and bottled from fruit sourced exclusively from Michel Redde’s La Moynerie vineyard. The vines are between 20 and 25 years old and grow in diverse subsoils of limestone, kimmeridgian marl, and clay with flint—a diversity that allows superb blends in every vintage. The winemaker uses temperature-controlled fermentation and ages the wine on the lees until bottling.
Wine maker notes
Michel Redde's estate of "La Moynerie" covers 85 acres just north of the town of Pouilly-sur-Loire, which has been extended from the original 15 acres owned when he took control of the property. The estate's vineyards are situated in the heart of the appellation on the crest of a hillside overlooking the Loire River exposed directly to the south. The soils supporting the vineyard's Sauvignon vines vary, checkerboard fashion, between chalky clay, which yields wines of elegance, harmony, concentration and longevity; and clay and silica, which produce nervy, vibrant wines with the typical gunflint quality. The vineyard's southern exposure yields fruit of particular ripeness and concentration. A gentle pressing of the grapes is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation is stainless steel tanks, and the wine acquires complexity and longevity through contact with the fine lees until bottling.
