Bio-Weingut Geyerhof is a family owned winery that has been in Ilsa Maier’s family since the 16th century. The 37- acre estate is located in the Krems Valley of Lower Austria near the Danube River, which provides ideal growing conditions for Riesling, Gruner Veltliner and Zweigelt. The estate vineyards grow on different soils; prehistoric stone, sandy soils and gravel soils and are located in some of the best sites in the region. In 1986, Ilse took over Geyerhof and two years later, she and her husband Josef converted to the estate to organic. The vineyards are dry farmed and all the fruit is handharvested. In the winery, the grapes are fermented using natural yeasts. Lees contact, neutral barrel aging and malolactic fermentation are carefully utilized to add complexity to the wines. Ilse Maier is a founding member of the Association of Female Wine Makers of Austria.
Technical notes
The grapes were hand sorted in the vineyard and then whole-cluster pressed. The must was intentionally oxidized in the press to lend depth. The wine fermented and aged in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks with no malolactic and remained on its lees until bottling.

Producer
The Geyerhof is situated on the southern slopes of the Danube Valley east of Krems and forms part of the Lower Austrian wine region known as Kremstal (Krems Valley). Here, Josef and Ilse Maier cultivate 15 hectares of vineyards in optimal sites which are distinguished by their proximity to the Danube River. Noticeable temperature differences between day and night encourage the development of distinctive aromas and from the basis for top-quality wines. The special character and personality of the wines are however marked by Josef and Ilse Maier’s passion for wine and love for nature as well as tradition and joie de vivre, all of which influence their way of life and their decisions.
