The Schiopetto family has been in the Italian wine business for three generations. Mario Schiopetto founded this legendary estate in 1965, producing wines that would eventually inspire the entire wine industry. Since Mario’s death in 2003, his children Maria, Angela, Carlo and Giorgio have demonstrated their commitment to running the family winery. Schiopetto has set a standard of unrelenting quality and are seen today as one of Italy’s foremost white wine producers. The Schiopetto family’s 75 acres of vineyards cover the estate surrounding the former residence of the Bishop of Gorizia in Capriva del Friuli, and the Podere dei Blumeri in the Rosazzo hills that form part of the eastern hills of Friuli. Since the beginning Schiopetto has set a standard of unrelenting quality that covers vineyard practice as well as vinification. The vines are planted in a unique soil type known locally as ponca (limestone-clay marl), which lends a tremendous crushed mineral element to the wines. The heart of the winery is the yeast room, which plays a vital role in the company’s philosophy and production process. This is where the various types of yeast required to trigger fermentation are grown. Cutting edge technology is used to eliminate potential error.
