A deep red color, sweet and intense aromas of dried fruits has plenty of acidity to keep it balanced and fresh through to the finish.
Wine Advocate 93 points - An eccentric sweet wine, the 2008 Aleatico Passito d’Elba Valdana Malvina resembles Moscato Rosa, but with more structure and sheer depth. Dark red berries, flowers and menthol all come to life on the textured finish. This is a dazzling effort with so much to like. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016. (Feb 2013)
In 1999, the Falvo family bought Li Veli, a 128-acre property located in Apulia, Italy in the Salice Salentino DOC. The Falvos, former owners of the highly regarded Avignonesi winery in Tuscany, have modernized the winery, reviving the estate’s rich historical heritage and refocused efforts on producing terroir-driven wines from indigenous varieties.
|Wine maker notes
|The Passito is produced from Aleatico grapes harvested from Valdana, a 10 acre vineyard planted on clay and limestone located on the slopes of Monte Fabrello in Elba.
|After harvest the grape clusters are dried in the sun for one week to concentrate the grape’s flavors and sugars. After pressing the must ferments on its skins and matures for six months in stainless steel.
|Li Veli is situated in Puglia, the heel of Italy's boot, which is also the largest wine-producing region in the country. In 1999 the Falvo family (former owners of Avignonesi in Tuscany) bought the 128 acre property in Salice Salentino, heart of the Salento region. The vineyard
portion of the estate currently measures 35 hectares Li Veli highlights the region's principal native varietals, like Negroamaro and Primitivo, which are made into powerful, inky dark wines of great character and elegance. Through proper vineyard management and vinification Li Veli
has established a new quality benchmark for wines from Puglia.
