Wine Advocate 92 points - The Michel 2008 Chablis Vaudesir offers another rather Riesling-like performance, with lime zest, petrol, grapefruit, and fresh quince in the nose spilling over onto a luscious yet penetratingly bright, citric palate suffused with alkaline minerality and leading to a gripping, rather firm, almost severely citrus zest-, alkali-, iodine- and kelp-tinged finish. This retains a lot of CO2, and seems to be a bit reduced and/or struck by its recent bottling, but is still highly impressive, strikingly buoyant, incipiently transparent, and should gain in stature short term and be worth following for at least a decade. Metaphorically cool and uncannily marine, it would make a remarkable accompaniment to oysters. Expect it to be worth following for at least a decade. (Oct 2010)

The Michel family have been cultivating their passion for tradition and the Chablis terroir since 1850. The winery is situated right in the heart of the village, with the 25-hectare vineyard spread over the very first slopes that were discovered by Cistercian monks in the 11th century. 40 years ago, the family decided to stop making the wine in wooden barrels, preferring to create clean, pure and precise Chablis without adding artificial woody tastes. Through this philosophy, combined with the limited yields inspired by organic wine-growing techniques, the Domaine has developed a worldwide reputation for fine wine-making in stainless steel tanks. Today, the Domaine is managed by Jean-Loup Michel and his nephew, Guillaume Gicqueau-Michel, who is continuing the family tradition.
