Color: Intense dark ruby red. Aroma: Intensely lifted notes of blackberries and plums. Dried thyme and sweet, spicy oak aromas give this wine an intriguing nose and balances the fruit aromas nicely. Palate: Rich and full flavors of plums, dark forest berries and spice. Ripe and luscious, the fruit flavors are well framed by silky tannins, giving the wine structure and great length. Cellar: Enjoy from two to ten years.

Rise and Shine Pinot Noir is named after Rise and Shine Creek, which runs through the heart of Central Otago’s once famous gold mining area. We look for a wine with many layers and many flavors. The region yields dark, intense wine with purple touches—brooding and developing over time. Clearvue Vineyard—one of the warmer areas in Central Otago’s cool climate regions—rests on the northern end of the Bendigo Loop Road. Bendigo produces Pinot Noir with an abundance of dark berry fruit flavors. The vineyard is also situated near stunning Lake Dunstan, which provides an additional moderating effect to the microclimate. Central Otago’s cool climate and low rainfall allow the grapes to ripen slowly, producing wines that have great flavor ripeness.

Food pairing
Ideal with a wild mushroom risotto, pasta marinara, grilled tuna, venison, and lamb dishes.

Producer
In 1996, Kim Crawford and his wife Erica fell in love with the idea of starting a winery. The only problem was they had little money. So Kim and Erica ran the company from a spare room of their home in Central Auckland, New Zealand. In their first vintage, they produced 4,000 cases without owning a single grapevine or tank. With head-spinning speed, their powerful, aromatic wines gained a devoted, even fanatical, following. Just two years after startup, they began exporting their wines to the United States. Within four short years of their first release, the Crawfords had rented a state-of-the-art winery in Marlborough and began looking at vineyards they could buy. In 2003, Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc made Wine Spectator’s Top 100 List for the first time. And then again in 2005, 2006 and in 2008—the same year Wine Spectator also awarded our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 91 points to mark seven years in a row of 90 plus points for this wine. Today we’re the #1 luxury New Zealand wine in the United States.*
