Wine Advocate 90 points - The 2005 Summa Varietalis is composed of 60% Syrah, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Petit Verdot aged in seasoned French barriques for 10-14 months (with each variety vinified separately). It offers up a pleasing perfume of wood smoke, game, licorice, espresso, blueberry, and blackberry leading to a medium to full-bodied wine with outstanding volume, enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years, and layered, savory flavors. It will offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2020, perhaps longer.
Wine Spectator 88 points - This generous red offers plum cake and raisin pudding flavors, with ripe fruit, modest but chewy tannins and a spicy finish. Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2013. 7,500 cases made.
