Wine Spectator 91 points - Expressive, with smoke, spice and sandalwood notes up front, featuring a generous core of plush, juicy and very ripe strawberry and cherry flavors. Vanilla, mocha and toast details linger on the finish. Drink now through 2028.-M.W.  (Mar 9 2016)

Wine Advocate 96 points - Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Amon Ra has youthfully toned-down notes of blackcurrants, blackberry preserves, plums and cracked pepper with nuances of licorice, dark chocolate, cedar and black earth. The palate has wonderful balance and elegance for its commendable concentration and fullness, with tons of muscular fruit and spice layers framed by grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with great persistence. (Jun 2015)

Wine maker notes
The key to Amon-Ra Shiraz is balancing the extraction, rather than maximising it. The fruit has such expression that we aim to preserve the characteristics of the vineyard rather than dominate them.

Dark purple with youthful hues on release, the nose is a compelling mix of dark stone fruits, coffee and blackberries. The 2010 is supremely focused yet rich and rewarding on the palate. The flavours are intense yet restrained, showing brooding dark fruit characters, with cracked pepper hints, some minerality and great complexity. The astounding purity of expression and multilayered structure will allow this wine to mature with elegance for decades to come.

The Glaetzer philosophy focuses simply on the production of small-volume, super premium wines. The company holds a firm belief that the wines are made in the vineyard – a combination of the French notion of terroir combined with Australian vineyard site knowledge. The wines are produced from vines grown in well-drained sandy clay loam over a solid limestone pan. This particular soil, widely recognized as the best for dry grown Shiraz , is limited to the Ebenezer region in the northwestern part of the Barossa Valley . Yields are exceptionally low, with 1 to 1 1/2 tons per acre of Shiraz from some of the 80-year old vines being common. Glaetzer has exceptional fruit, and thus opts for a minimalist approach.
