Wine maker notes
The Gerbino Rosso is the Di Giovanna’s classic blend that is the pillar of their production. It expresses their unique terroir and climate in a harmonious blend of classic international varieties and the native Nero d’ Avola. Named after the Gerbino vineyard, it is the oldest family vineyard owned by their great grandfather. Hand harvested grapes, crushed and macerated for 5 days, temperature controlled. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks, each varietal seperately. The Nero d’Avola & Syrah are aged in second and third year French oak barrels for 3 months. The wine is finally blended to achieve the classic Gerbino Rosso blend style. Deep red in color with shades of violet. Fresh fruity nose of wildberries, plums and spice. In the mouth the oak flavors are well integrated, notes of plums follow, accompanied by soft tannins and slightly spicy finish.

Food pairing
Pair with roasted or grilled chicken or pork, roasted vegetables, potatoes with rosemary, sausage. The wine is so versatile it works beautifully with a simple pasta and tomato sauce plate or pizza!

Following in the footsteps of our Great Grandfather Cristoforo Ciaccio who planted the first vineyards in 1860 and aged his wines in the cellar of the old farmhouse Fiuminello, the Di Giovanna family has continued to cultivate its vineyards with unwavering dedication and pride for generations. In 1985, Aurelio Di Giovanna and his wife Barbara, initiated in-depth study of their mico-climates and soils. Following careful cloning and testing they identified the vines best suited for each vineyard. Each property was delinated into 5 unique vineyard sites: Miccina, Gerbino, and Paradiso at 350-480m above sea level in the village of Contessa Entellina (PA). The Fiuminello and San Giacomo vineyards flourish at 700-830m above sea level in the mountains surrounding the town of Sambuca di Sicilia (AG). The Di Giovanna family is committed to organic practices in their vineyards and winery, preserving their land and history. All of their products are certified organic through Suolo e Salute srl. Since 1997.
